Hiking
Hiking is one of the best ways to experience Petrified Forest National Park. There are seven trails weaving and winding through the unique rock formations in the middle of the desert. Whether you just want to gaze at petrified wood along the .6-mile Giant Logs loop or soak in the magnificent dome-shaped rock formations along the one-mile Blue Mesa loop, exploring these incredible landscapes is a fantastic way to spend a day in the Grand Canyon State.
Backcountry Exploring
If you’re adventurous and want to go beyond the trail, there are nine breathtaking places to experience off the beaten path. These fun and exciting routes take you through the Devil’s Playground and the Red Basin Clam Beds, where breathtaking hoodoos, vibrant badlands, and petroglyphs await you. We recommend checking out at least one of these during your visit.
